Up steps the prodigiously talented 20year old Justin Jay, a true California golden child, born, raised and nourished within the LA city limits for his Culprit debut with ‘The Jaguar’.The threetrack EP has been the result of organically built relationship with the LAbased imprint, with songs inspired by LA and the label’s sound and credo.
The title track is dedicated to that quintessential Los Angeles icon – a classic car. This is a joyous ode to a topdown drive at sunset with the city sprawled underneath and all around, its possibilities endless. ‘Coldwater’is named after one of LA’s most striking canyon roads, the song’s rapturous tone being the emotive core of the release. ‘You and Me’ is the sound of the hot LA afternoon, the beach, the girls, the lazy hazy comfort of sunburnt days.
After the Winter/Spring European “tour” of young production talent, Culprit set out on another five stop swing, this time exploring the North American artistic pool, with impressive work coming from established and new talent alike. For the third release of this series, the label strikes hot right at its home base – Los Angeles.
Still a fulltime University of Southern California student, Justin Jay’s rise has been quick and dramatic.
Picked up by Claude Vonstroke and integrated into the tightknit San Francisco based Dirtybird family, Justin’s releases for the label and his recent work for Southern Fried have brought him some very notable supporters (Jamie Jones & Lee Foss, Nick Monaco, M A N I K, Daniel Dexter, Uner).
